Fit For Life – Week of 2/6 recap

// February 10th, 2012 // No Comments » // Fit For Life

Sorry, I know I  should have this up prior to the start of the week.  However, let’s take a minute to recap the past three days of class meetings:

2/6 – due to many students absent on a variety of field trips, congrats to those being honored at the NHIAA, we played Sabakiball and infused it with some CHS style rules.

2/8 – we discussed rated perceived exertion and how it can help us determine if we are working within our training heart rate zones.  To wrap up the day, we continued to work on our cardiovascular system by playing a new game called satryan ball.

2/10 – Today we reviewed the benefits of flexibility and how to go about improving our individual levels, through either static stretching, dynamic stretching, or PNF stretching.  To finish of the class period, we again worked on our cardiovascular endurance through Sabakiball.  During class you received a handout on the the game and the adaptations we made to play here at CHS.

Remember to Chart your push ups and Curl -ups and lets set a goal for the next time :)

F4L – Week of 1/30

// January 31st, 2012 // No Comments » // Fit For Life

Okay, two days into the semester and we are having a ball already.  What did you think of the box ball game?  Over the next two class meetings this week, we will be discussing the basics of physical fitness.  Some of those basics include: why we should exercise, how much we should exercise, and the good ole components of health and skill related fitness.

Remember on Thursday 2/2, I will be out presenting at another school.  My hope is that you will still enjoy the activities that I have left for you.

The class downloads will have the written form of the discussed topics in class for 1/31.  Also make sure that you complete the homework download on Physical Fitness.

Welcome Everyone – August

// August 18th, 2011 // No Comments » // 9th Grade PE, Fit For Life, Strength Training, Wellness

Wow, it is time to start to think about coming back to school!  I am looking forward to another brand new school year with a new focus for each class that I am teaching.  Over the summer, I tied a variety of new fitness activities that actually provide results and I am looking forward to infusing them into all physical education classes.  These new activities are inspired by the fitness guru Jillian Michael’s and can honestly say that I am seeing results for myself by following her fitness tips and programs, with some of my own unique twists but with her 3-2-1 concept.  Get ready everyone, we will start slow and work hard for each aspect of fitness time!!!!

Some things that will be new is the completion of a sportfolio (something that will house all of your work that is done in and outside of the class).  Within this sportfolio, you will be tracking different aspects of your individual fitness along with your individual self-reflection including charting your heart rate, rpe, or steps at the end of the class session.    Below is a tentative outline of what class will be charting individually:

9th Grade PE – Working heart rate

Fit 4 Life – Rated Perceived Exertion Levels

Wellness – Steps using a Pedometer

It is my hope to provide everyone some foundations to skill work and fitness techniques  to help you all lead a healthy lifestyle during and post your high school career

I am looking for a fun, exciting, and positive year!
