Fit For Life General Information
Welcome to the Fit For Life physical education class website. This class is an elective that is taken after successfully completing the ninth grade physical education class. During the upcoming semester, you will further your understanding of physical fitness throughout many different units and developing an individualized fitness goals. The units that will be covered are an intense fitness unit, a Tennis unit, a volleyball unit, a McWhippit unit, a floor hockey unit, and finally the high ropes challenge course.
Tennis
During this unit, students will learn the fundamental skills to the game of tennis. Each student will have multiple opportunities to develop his or her overall fundamental skills in this particular game. The fundamental skills that we will be covering are as follows: forehand stroke, backhand stroke, lob, drop, and serving techniques. Finally, students will have the opportunity learn about the history and strategies used in this great game.
Volleyball
During this unit, students will review the fundamental skills as well as learning new skills to the game of volleyball. Each student will have multiple opportunities to continue develop his or her overall fundamental skills. The new skills that will be introduced are the block, dig, jump serve, and different types of sets. Finally, students will have the opportunity learn about the history and strategies used in this great game.
High Ropes Course
During this unit, students will be working on developing effective communication, trust, and team building skills to accomplish many different tasks. They will engage in many different problem-solving initiatives along will accomplishing the high ropes course.
McWhip-It
During this unit, students will learn the fundamental skills to the game of McWhip-It. Each student will have multiple opportunities to develop his or her overall fundamental skills in this particular game. The fundamental skills that we will be covering are as follows: passing, shooting, and catching. Finally, students will have the opportunity learn about the history and strategies used in this great game.
Fitness
During this unit, your current level of fitness will be assessed using the Physical Best Fitnessgram; this assessment will evaluate your cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility and inform you if you are currently in the healthy fitness zone. After completing the Fitnessgram and learning your results, you will be learning in depth about multiple fitness concepts and how to apply them in effective ways to increase your own level of fitness.
